Week in review
Currently thanking the public transportation gods for the glory that is Bolt Bus. I’m en route to Washington DC for the weekend, and every time I ride one of these majestic, wi-fi enabled, unsmelly coaches, I’m reminded how grateful I am that there is an alternative to Greyhound. *shudder*
This will be my first trip to DC since my sister moved back to Wisconsin, which might be sad, if not for the awesomeness that’s about to ensue. My friend Evan, a middle school teacher in Florida, texted me on Wednesday and asked, “Are you feeling spontaneous?” I was mostly feeling tired, as Fashion Week had just ended, and I finally got to rest for a hot second. As it turned out, he was bringing his Model UN club (class? organization?) to our nation’s capitol for their…championship? tournament? Hmm, the more I talk about this trip, the more I realize I have no idea what I’m getting myself into. but he was herding them north of the mason-dixon line for the weekend and was one chaperone down. Would I want to fill in?
Nerdy kids talking about geo-politics with a side trip or two to go see the Lincoln Memorial? I honestly couldn’t think of anything I’d like to do more this weekend.
And hey, maybe they’ll need me to tap in and I’ll get to be ambassador to the moon! Regardless, they’re comping my meals and I get my own room and his students have to call me Ms. Collins, all of which I’m obviously in favor of. I’m totally going to have a rap session with these kids about if the Biebs and Selena Gomez are going to last. And how downhill Glee has gone. What about pogs? Are pogs still a thing? Whatever, I’ll figure it out. I wonder if one of the girls could teach me how to french braid my hair.
No international crises to solve over on Style Girlfriend this week, but I think it’s still worth visiting:
- My subway style creeper series continued, when I spotted a pinkie ring in the wild
- Why I’m learning how to take a compliment (and why you should too)
- A reader’s question had me hot under the collar
- Style Girlfriend went to Canada, and made it back no worse for the wear - accent-free and maybe even a little friendlier.
- Valentine’s Day is over, but my gift picks on Style Owner would be appreciated year-round (but…you did get her something on Valentine’s Day, right? Oh dear god, right??).
- Shoe shines are to guys as pedicures are to us ladies. Treat yo’ self.
